Mediterranean Nachos with Garlicky Yogurt, Chickpeas and Harissa

SONY DSCWhat a yummy, yummy dish!! You thought nachos were already an ultimate pleaser but then you try this twist and its such a tie!! I love the spicy kick of harissa with cool, tasty and tangy garlicky yogurt. The chickpeas give great texture and the addition of pita chips makes this dish authentically, exotically a must experience, delicious recipe to try!

 

3 whole wheat pitas, broken into triangles

3 tablespoons olive

1 teaspoon thyme

2 cups yogurt

1 tbsp minced garlic

1 can chickpeas, drained

Salt and pepper to taste

Harissa:

7 dried red chili peppers

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon ground coriander

1 teaspoon ground caraway seeds

1/2 teaspoon cumin

 

1) In a food processer, mix the ingredients for harissa until ingredients make a smooth paste.

2) Bake the broken pita pieces for 10 minutes at 375F, after tossing pita in olive oil, thyme, salt and pepper. Keep an eye on the pitas to bake just til crispy.

3) In a bowl, mix the yogurt and garlic well.

4) In a serving plate, start setting up the nachos by placing on the bottom the pita pieces, then adding the garlicky yogurt, then the harissa. In the center place the drained chickpeas. Garnish with a piece of parsley and enjoy!
