Honey Hummus with Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Pita Chips

This recipe at first sounds funny but trust me tahini in hummus and honey go amazing together! Tahini, which is roasted sesame seed paste, is the peanut butter of the Mediterranean. It is incredibly nutty and creamy. In fact, a popular snack in Lebanon is tahini with honey on pita (think pb and jelly). So when you put hummus with honey, you get the nutty tahini with earthy chickpeas for a real healthy yet sweet treat. The pita cinnamon-brown sugar chips are also pretty addictive and come out great! I actually made this recipe for my best Honey hummusfriend who doesn’t eat garlic since this is one hummus recipe that is not garlicky at all and a great anytime snack. Note: honey hummus is also very yummy with carrots.

1 can of chickpeas, drained (real hummus uses dried chickpeas that are soaked but for convenience purpuses, this works for me!)
Juice of 1 lemon
1 cup tahini
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
4 tablespoons olive oil
3 whole wheat pitas, broken into triangles
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
Honey and lemon zest for garnish

1) In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, 3 tbsp olive oil, salt, honey and lemon juice. Mix well. Add more olive oil and/or tahini if want to smooth out consistency even more.
2) Preheat oven to 350F, coat the pita triangles in 1 tbsp olive oil with cinnamon and brown sugar coating well. Bake for 10 minutes until crispy.
